From his speech at the Malayala Chalachithra Parishath’s Condolence Meeting, held to honour her memory.
മലയാളത്തിന്റെ അഭിമാനമായിരുന്ന ആ നടി വിവാഹത്തോടെ സിനിമാ വേദിക്കു നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു. പരിപൂർണമായും മരണം അവരെ കവർന്നെടുത്തുവെന്ന് കേട്ടപ്പോൾ ഞാനും നടുങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
ചന്ദ്രതാരയുടെ രണ്ടു ചിത്രങ്ങളിലേ അവർ അഭിനയിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളൂ. നീലക്കുയിലും, മുടിയനായ പുത്രനും. നമ്മുടെ സിനിമാ വേദിക്കെന്നപോലെ മിസ് കുമാരിക്കും കീർത്തിയും ബഹുമതികളും നേടിക്കൊടുത്ത ചിത്രങ്ങളാണവ. താനവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തെ വിജയിപ്പിക്കാനവർ എല്ലാം മറന്നു പ്രവർത്തിക്കും.
ഓർത്തുപോകുന്നു:
മഴനനഞ്ഞു സത്യന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ കയറി നിൽക്കുന്ന രംഗം. നീലക്കുയിലിൽ രാത്രി പത്തു മണിമുതൽ പുലർച്ചെ അഞ്ചു വരെയാണ് ഷൂട്ടിംഗ്. ഓരോ ഷോട്ടിലും മഴ നനഞ്ഞിരിക്കണമല്ലോ? ഓരോ കുടം വെള്ളം വീതം ഓരോ ഷോട്ടിലും അവരുടെ തലയിലും ദേഹമാസകലവുമൊഴിക്കും. ആ രാത്രി മുഴുവൻ ഇത് തുടർന്നു. മുഖത്തിലൽപ്പം വിഷമമോ, പരിഭവമോ ഞാനവരിൽ കണ്ടില്ല.
തെന്നിന്ത്യയിൽ ആദ്യമായി അഖിലേന്ത്യാ അംഗീകാരം നേടിയ നീലക്കുയിലിലെ നായിക, നീലി, എന്നുമെന്നും മലയാള സിനിമ ഉള്ളിടത്തോളം കാലം പ്രേക്ഷക ഹൃദയങ്ങളിൽ ജീവിക്കും.
She was Malayalam film industry’s pride and when she bid adieu to industry after marriage, we lost a star. Now, with the news of her demise, I am shocked.
She was part of 2 Chandrathara productions, Neelakuyil and Mudiyanaya Puthran. Both movies gave her recognition and she was one of those actors who gave it all to make the character memorable.
In Memoriam:
During Neelakuyil’s shooting, there was a scene in which she had to be drenched in rain. During those days, shooting was from 10 pm to 5 am. The entire night, she continued to be drenched for the scene, without showing any discomfort or anger. Such was her dedication. As the first south Indian movie that was recognized nationally, Neeli of Neelakuyil will remain in everyone’s heart for a long time to come.
