തിരുവനന്തപുരം നാടകങ്ങളിലും, റേഡിയോ നാടകങ്ങളിലും, മൂന്നു നാല് ചിത്രങ്ങളിലും ഞങ്ങളൊന്നിച്ചഭിനയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
മുടിയനായ പുത്രനിൽ എന്നെ ക്ഷണിക്കാൻ വന്ന കാര്യാട്ടും, പ്രഭുവും ഞാനും തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തുനിന്ന് നേരെ പോയത് ഭരണങ്ങാനത്തുള്ള മിസ് കുമാരിയുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കാണ്. ഞാനവിടെ സിനിമാ നടിയായ കുമാരിയെ കണ്ടില്ല. അതിഥി സൽക്കാരപ്രിയയായ ഒരു കുടുംബ നാഥയെയാണ്. മറ്റേതൊരു സിനിമാ നടിയിലും കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ഈ വ്യതാസം കുമാരിയുടെ പ്രത്യേകതയായിരുന്നു. മേക്കപ്പില്ലാത്ത കുമാരി. വീട്ടിൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന കുമാരി. അവരെ കണ്ടാൽ ഒരു സിനിമ നടിയാണെന്നു ആർക്കും കരുതാൻ കഴിയില്ല.
തികച്ചും മലയാളത്തിന്റേതായ കഥ, മലയാളിയുവതിയുടെ വേഷം, രൂപത്തിലും ഭാവത്തിലും വേഷത്തിലും എന്നു വേണ്ട ഓരോ ചലനത്തിൽ പോലും, ആ കഥാപാത്രത്തെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കാൻ കുമാരിയെപ്പോലെ ഒരു നടിക്കല്ലാതെ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല.
അവരെ അതിജീവിക്കാവുന്ന ഒരു മലയാളി നടിയും നമുക്കുണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല. ഉണ്ടാവുകയുമില്ല. കുമാരി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ നമുക്ക് സുപരിചിതങ്ങളും ജീവിതവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളതുമാണെന്നു തോന്നിപ്പോകും.
I have acted with her in plays, radio plays as well as three to four movies.
In Mudiyanaya Puthran, after inviting me to be part of the movie, me, Karyat and Prabhu left for Miss Kumari’s home in Bharananganam. There I did not see the star Miss Kumari, but the host Miss Kumari. She was so humble and simple, no makeup, a very homely Kumari.
There has been no other actor who has been able to bring so much originality to her characters as Kumari has done and I believe, there will be no one in the future as well. Every character that she has done seem so real.
